
1 on 1 Personal Training
Personal Training with me looks a bit different than a traditional personal trainer because I take a non-diet, Health at Every Size approach to working with clients.
I help my clients connect to their bodies, and dig to the root of what they truly want for themselves.
A typical session involves me asking what their body needs for today, and accommodating accordingly. I recognize that we as humans are 4 bodies: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual, and I make it my mission to guide each client to become the expert of their own bodies.

I have had various gym memberships and worked with multiple personal trainers and nutritionists. While they were lovely as people, it was lots of diet culture....weighing my food, weighing myself, measuring myself, pushing myself to exercise even when I was fatigued and stressed. All of this meant exercise was closely linked with anxiety and shame...never feeling like I was doing enough & feeling like a failure when what I was doing didn't result in weight loss (keeping me stuck in a vicious cycle). This led to a total rest from exercise...so I could focus on my mindset and reducing stress. Having Jolyn to support me to reengage with exercise has been so helpful!
Working with Jolyn has helped me reclaim joy in exercise and body movement. It's no longer surrounded by pressure to get thinner or punish my body for what I ate that day. Instead, with Jolyn, I have become stronger, my knee pain and body tension has decreased, I love the movement we do and I continue to build the connection between my mind and body. Instead of exercise being about bullying or punishing my body, it has become about taking care of my body in a loving and compassionate way. I love how Jolyn encourages me to listen to my body. It's really empowering....rather than the "no pain, no gain" we've been taught.

I started working with Jolyn in October 2020. In a short amount of time, I can honestly say she's changed my life. She has helped me develop a much healthier relationship with food and exercise- one that isn't led by guilt and shame but enjoyment and experience instead. I have a lot of work to do still on this journey but I feel so supported by Jolyn. Deconstructing so much of what I thought about health and fitness has been hard but SUCH a beautiful process. It can be an incredibly vulnerable thing to open up to someone about your relationship to your body, food, exercise, etc but she makes it so safe. It's been emotional at times and she's walked alongside me. If you're thinking about asking Jolyn to train you, I highly recommend it. It's a life changing experience.

I would recommend Jolyn to anyone who feels ready to start their journey to change their relationship with their body, with food, with fitness. I had never done this type of work before and I don't think there is anyone better then Jolyn to begin with. Her fun, easygoing and sweet personality immediately made me feel at ease in our first session together. She's honest in letting you know the support she can provide and how she can help you/what she won't do (focus on diet culture). I had my last session with Jolyn a few months ago but I am still using the tools she gave me to better myself each day. I constantly see positive changes in my relationship to food and fitness after only a number of sessions with her. She gave me the gentle push in the right direction of self love. Although we are not currently meeting for sessions, I still feel her support and feel comfortable connecting with her as I go through this journey.
When I met Jolyn I was thinking over the idea of getting a personal trainer to support me with my fitness journey. I have struggled with disordered eating and low-self esteem for many years. Jolyn shared with me that our work together would focus on overcoming the idea of needing to look a certain way and learning to be happy and feeling good in my existing body. In our consult, she shared that her goals were not focused on deepening my body image issues by giving me a strict fitness regime to follow but instead to work on my connection to my body and relationship with food. I knew working with Jolyn would be more sustainable than working with someone who would only support my goal to need to look a different way.
Jolyn helped me put words to my emotions around food, diet, fitness and body image. She was the first person that I had ever spoken to about my body image/disordered eating and she was the perfect first person. She was kind and understanding. She challenged my views in sympathetic ways. She used examples to help me know I'm not alone in my difficulties. She gave uncomplicated homework after each session to help support her teachings. She checked in with me at each session and provided individualized care based on how I was presenting at the time. IE; if we had planned to discuss something but I wanted to continue conversation from a previous week or had questions about the homework we would switch our focus for that week. I liked working with Jolyn because she was caring and I never felt rushed or pressured. She provided a safe space for me to share sensitive information and created an environment I could learn and grow in. The work I did with Jolyn was extremely sensitive and new to me but her steady pace and wisdom helped me to create positive self talk and see results months after our last session.
If I were to describe Jolyn it would be: Content, secure, trusting, peaceful, powerful, important, confident, valuable, proud, hopeful and thankful beyond words.
